This blog is about my dad, Ben, and his twin brother, Calvin. Both served in the Pacific during WWII. Calvin was killed in New Guinea, not in combat, but in an accident while unloading supplies from a barge. My grandmother saved all of the letters they wrote home from the beginning to the end. I read them when I was younger, but after reading them again recently I realized what an absolute treasure they are. I created this blog to be able to share them with family and friends.

Ben, Dec. 29, 1945
There was no picture in the letter,
but I found this picture of one.
From what I've read, these boats were used to go out and pick up
pilots that had been shot down and had crashed in the ocean.
Hence the name 'Crash' boats.
Ben, Dec. 31, 1945
You can tell by the tone of this letter that he was tired and frustrated,
and more than ready to get on that ship and come home.
I think back to the first letters I entered here and how both of them
spoke as boys, but matured into young men somewhere along the way.
This is Ben's last letter he wrote before returning home to Tennessee.
